Meetings held monthly at 'the Spotlight'
(formerly Broxbourne Civic Hall), in High Street, Hoddesdon

COVID 19 Impact

Since the start of "lockdown" during March 2020 the operation of our U3A has been severely impacted.

The U3A offers learning and social activities for those not in full-time gainful employment.  Skills and experiences are shared among the members and it is an excellent opportunity to meet local people in similar circumstances to your own.

Lea Valley U3A was the first to be set up in this area, in 1992, and we welcome members from Broxbourne, Hoddesdon, Nazeing and surrounding areas.  In fact, you are very welcome to join us wherever you live, and whatever your age.
Our main meetings are normally held on the second Monday of the month, at 'the Spotlight' in Hoddesdon (formerly Broxbourne Civic Hall).
However, meetings are currently being held at Stanboroughs, Conduit Lane, near Sainsbury's in Hoddesdon, as The Spotlight remains closed, probably until March 2022. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE  10TH JANUARY 2022 MEETING WILL NOW BE VIA ZOOM - SEE 'CHAIRMANS CORNER' ARTICLE ON THE 'NEWS' PAGE.
Please refer to information in our Newsletter if you wish to attend a meeting at Stanborough's as space is limited and you will need to advise us that you are coming.

Dates of forthcoming meetings
can be found on our News page, and are shown in the latest Newsletter which can be found on our News page which you can get to by clicking on the "NEWS" link at the top of this page in the margin. When meetings are held at The Spotlight, members are invited to arrive from 1.30pm onwards to visit group tables and have a cup of tea or coffee, and lunch if they wish, in the Bistro Bar.  The speaker will begin at 2pm, the subject of our talks ranging from “Weird & Wonderful Weddings” to “Wildlife in Tanzania”, and everything else in between!

Lea Valley U3A has over 50 interest groups including Antiques and Collectables. Pilates, Keep Fit, French Boules, Exploring London, Reading for Pleasure, Walking Groups, Craft Groups and Pub Lunches, to name a few.  Click on "GROUPS" in the margin for a full list. There is something on offer for everyone, both ladies and gentlemen.  Depending on the number of members, some groups meet in small halls around the area, or in private homes.

Annual membership is 15 and forms can be collected at our meetings. If you wish to join in the meantime, please contact us by email. Click on the "CONTACTS" box at the top left margin of this page. Alternatively you can download a Membership Application Form here:-

Membership Application Form 2022

From 2022 there is an additional charge of 3.50 if you also wish to receive the Third Age Trust's Magazine ("Third Age Matters") delivered to your home five times a year.

Also, if you are a fully paid up member of another U3A, the cost of membership with us is reduced to 11.50, as 3.50 of the 15 goes to the Third Age Trust as an administration/affiliation fee, and you only pay this once, however many branches of the U3A you belong to. Please refer to the form for more details.

If you want to see what we do, you are welcome to come along as a visitor and pay just 2, which will be deducted from your membership fee if you do decide to join.

Our membership year now runs on a calendar year basis i.e. from 1st January to 31st December.

We offer a warm welcome, a friendly smile, and lots to do – why not come along and find out for yourself !  You don’t have to be young to have fun !!

Please visit or 'NEWS' page to get all the latest information.

Lea Valley U3A has its own e-mail account which members and non-members can use to contact Committee Members or Group Leaders. Details and the appropriate link can be found on the CONTACTS page of this website.
