LEA VALLEY u3a

Meetings normally held monthly at 'The Spotlight'
(formerly Broxbourne Civic Hall), in High Street, Hoddesdon

The u3a offers learning and social activities for those not in full-time gainful employment.  Skills and experiences are shared among the members and it is an excellent opportunity to meet local people in similar circumstances to your own.

Lea Valley u3a was the first to be set up in this area, in 1992, and we welcome members from Broxbourne, Hoddesdon, Nazeing and surrounding areas. In fact, you are very welcome to join us wherever you live, and whatever your age.

Our main meetings are normally held on the second Monday of the month,
but please check the latest Newsletter to confirm dates. Meetings are held at "The Spotlight" in Hoddesdon (formerly Broxbourne Civic Hall).

The Newsletter can be found on our News page which you can get to by clicking on the "NEWS" link at the top of this page in the margin. Members are invited to arrive from 1.00pm onwards to visit group tables and have a drink and a light snack if they wish. The speaker will begin at 2pm, the subject of our talks ranging from “Weird & Wonderful Weddings” to “Wildlife in Tanzania”, "Art on The Underground" and everything else in between!

Lea Valley u3a has over 40 interest groups including Art Appreciation, Pilates, Croquet, French Boules, Exploring London, Reading for Pleasure, Walking Groups, Craft Groups, Eating Round the World and Pub Lunches, to name a few. Click on "GROUPS" in the margin for a full list. There is something on offer for everyone, both ladies and gentlemen. Depending on the number of members, some groups meet outdoors, in small halls around the area, or in private homes.

Annual membership for 2025 is £20. Forms can be collected at our meetings
; alternatively you can download and print a form here:-

Membership Application Form 2025

Anyone wishing to join us during the remainder of 2024 will only pay £20, and have "free" membership for the remainder of this year.

There is an additional charge of £4 if you also wish to receive the Third Age Trust's Magazine ("Third Age Matters") delivered to your home five times a year.

If you attend our meetings you can drop off your completed form at the Membership Secretary's desk in the foyer, and collect your card at the next meeting.

If you are a fully paid up member of another u3a, the cost of membership with us is reduced to £16, as £4 of the £20 goes to the Third Age Trust as an administration/affiliation fee, and you only pay this once however many branches of the u3a you belong to. Please refer to the form for more details.

If you want to see what we do, you are welcome to come along as a visitor and pay just £2, which will be deducted from your membership fee if you do decide to join.

Our membership year runs on a calendar year basis i.e. from 1st January to 31st December, but you are welcome to join at any time.

We offer a warm welcome, a friendly smile, and lots to do – why not come along and find out for yourself !  You don’t have to be young to have fun !!

Lea Valley u3a has its own e-mail account which members and non-members can use to contact Committee Members or Group Leaders. Details and the appropriate link can be found on the CONTACTS page of this website.
